Advisory: Cyanobacteria Bloom in Upper Lagoon Pond
Oak Bluffs Board of Health has issued a cyanobacteria bloom “ADVISORY” for the area directly south of the herring run and “WATCH” directly north of the herring run. Cyanobacteria concentrations around the herring run are indicative of a cyanobacteria population that could potentially pose adverse health risks. The algal material is currently concentrated around the herring run, where prevailing winds have likely concentrated the algal mat that is floating at the surface.
Should you have further questions about risk, please reach out to Oak Bluffs Health Agent, Alexa Arieta, aarieta@oakbluffsma.gov. Should you have any further questions about the testing, or to report a bloom, please email mvcyano@greatpondfoundation.org.

We are pleased that Bryan Horsley from the Massachusetts Septic Test Center (MASSTC) will be with us to discuss Urine Diversion and other solutions to the problem with nitrogen in the Pond. If you have not heard Bryan speak, it is an amazing treat and worth every minute. In addition, we will discuss what the LPA has been up to this past year and we will have answers to all your questions about what's happening on the Lagoon this summer: water conditions, fish and shellfish activity, and LPA events on the water for you and your families. Town officials will be in attendance to address some of the most critical issues affecting Lagoon Pond.
